QUEENSBURY, N.Y. -- Unseasonably warm weather combined with heavy rain forced several area ski resorts to close Monday.

West Mountain in Queensbury closed for the first time all season. The area saw a couple inches of rain on Monday. The owner says he had to shut the mountain down because conditions weren't safe for skiers.

"The rain will make the top layer freeze up and it'll get real slippery for a skier. Edges will be tough," said West Mountain owner Mike Barbone.

Despite the day of empty slopes, West Mountain's owner says he expects the mountain to be busy as usual Tuesday.

Groomers are out making sure the snow will be ready for skiers in the morning.
