LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. -- A basketball tournament for a good cause took over the Lansingburgh High School Gym Saturday afternoon.
The Troy Police Department, the Department of Public works, the Troy Fire Department and teachers from Lansingburgh hit the court to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation.
Parents of those who have benefited from the foundation were on hand for the event. They say fundraisers like this tournament go a long way to help the foundation.
"It ensures that the kids right now are going to get their wishes, those kids going through what we've had. And it also helps us know that we have an insurance policy that it'll be there in the future for families and friends who may need a wish for their own children,” said Paula Buchanan, mother of a cancer survivor.
The Make a Wish Foundation was established in 1980 and has helped make more than 174,000 wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
