LATHAM, N.Y. -- Dozens gathered outside WROW's Latham headquarters on Saturday to protest the AM station's recent format change.
Light rock music replaced news and talk on the station Monday, meaning some popular hosts are no longer heard in the Capital Region.
The station's General Manager says the decision to change formats was based on low ratings for the shows.
"I've done a fair amount of research in the market and it just didn't look like it was an area for me to head into," said Chuck Benfer, Albany Broadcasting General Manager.
"They said that the ratings were low and that they're going in a different direction. They're allowed to do that, we just think they're wrong," said protester Thomas Cavanagh.
590 AM is now simulcasting music from Magic 100.9. Both stations are owned by Pamal Broadcasting.
