SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Retired Army Colonel Chris Gibson is making a run for the 20th Congressional District seat currently held by Scott Murphy and while Murphy has yet to officially declare if he'll run for re-election, Gibson has picked up the support of several local republican leaders.

Supporters and party members gathered for the Saratoga County Republican Chairmen's Club Breakfast to hear Gibson speak.

The 45-year-old Kinderhook native has the backing from all ten Republican county chairs in the district and says a major point of his campaign is to put power in the hands of citizens.

"This is a cause to rollback the size of the federal government and recast its role and put the power where the strength is in America. The strength of America are individuals, families, and our communities and that's where we want the power to be,” said Chris Gibson, (R) candidate for Congress.

Gibson, a 24-year Army veteran, is also seeking an endorsement from the Iraq Veterans for Congress Political Action Committee and tells the Poughkeepsie Journal he is looking run on the Conservative and Independence Party lines as well.
