ALBANY, N.Y. -- Joe Stelling of said, ''The last time I spoke to him he was on his way home and he never made it home.''

The night of June 13th, Joe's identical twin brother Lou Stelling was heading back from Washington Park. Near the corner of Morris and Robin streets, he was brutally assaulted by three men. His life hanging in the balance, doctors were forced to put him in a medically-induced coma.

Stelling said, ''It was the hardest thing I ever had to look at in my life was seeing him. He had abrasions and bruising and things all over his body and a broken clavicle, but the most severe thing was the head trauma.''

Police have arrested and charged Quayvaun Young, 18, and Roscoe Irving, 20, as well as a juvenile with the beating and robbery.

Acting Police Chief Steven Krokoff said, ''We're not going to tolerate this kind of behavior in our city. We expect people in our city to be able to go out and enjoy themselves without going out and being preyed upon by a group of individuals bent on causing issues.''

Young and Irving were also charged in the assault and robbery of two women on Lancaster Street the night of June 18th.

But they weren't alone. Police said along with Brittany Easter, Jameela Frederick and another juvenile, they stole two purses from the women and kicked them in the head and face, breaking one woman's nose.

Megan Freihofer lives right across the street from where it happened.

She said, ''Albany is like that anywhere you go, you have to be careful because the areas that are safe are usually very close to areas that aren't safe.''

As for Lou Stelling, he faces a long road to recovery. He has a PhD in French Linguistics but can't speak right now. But he and his twin brother can have some piece of mind knowing the suspects are behind bars.

Stelling said, ''These aren't really people who did this. They're monsters, and they need to be somewhere where they can't do this again.''

All six suspects were arraigned in Albany County Court. They remain in the Albany County Jail without bail.

Meanwhile medical bills are piling up for Lou Stelling. If you'd like to help, head to your local TrustCo Bank and ask to donate to the "Louis Edward Stelling Benefit Fund."
