ALBANY, N.Y. -- A UAlbany tradition will not take place this year following the riots that broke out before the St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 12. School officials have suspended the annual Fountain Day which was scheduled for April 10.

University President George Philip said in a letter to students over the weekend that the school needs to uphold its reputation. Philip said some students use Fountain Day as an excuse for heavy drinking, and the school felt it was necessary to suspend activities after student parties got out of hand last week.

Dozens of students are now facing charges in connection with the riots.

UAlbany also plans on moving next year's spring break to overlap St. Patrick's Day, in the hope students will leave town during the holiday.
