TROY, N.Y. -- The home to one of the largest collegiate bike races in the entire country takes place in Troy Sunday morning.
Different schools from around the region host a race each weekend throughout March and April, and this weekend, it was RPI's turn. The Tour de Troy was the first road race RPI has put on.
This weekend marks the fourth weekend of the eastern collegiate cycling conference. Director Joe Kopena says Troy is the perfect place to host this weekend’s race.
"This is awesome. This is a great downtown venue. Lots of really awesome architecture, the cafes are starting to open up, I see people getting breakfast, hanging out, a lot of spectators starting to show up, and this is just a great course for the race as well, so it’s got everything going on. Awesome venue, awesome racing action. I’m actually really excited about today,” said Joe Kopena, Director of Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference.
More than 400 racers of all ability levels participated in the event.
