Monday was day one in the murder trial of a Wynantskill man accused of killing a Troy couple almost nine years ago. YNN's Sabina Kuriakose is following the trial and has the latest from outside the Rensselaer County Courthouse.

TROY, N.Y. -- Opening statements are heard in day one of the Michael Mosley murder trial. The Wynantskill man is accused of stabbing Arica Schneider, 18, and her boyfriend Samuel Holley, 27, in their Brunswick Road apartment in Troy back in 2002.

Police believe the murders were drug related and that Mosley and Holley were involved in the drug trade.

Mosley was arrested last summer after police said his DNA matched a bloody palm print at the scene of the crime.

Mosley faces life in prison if convicted.

Rensselaer County Assistant District Attorney Christa Book said, "It was determined that the DNA profile of Michael Mosley, the defendant, matched the DNA profile left behind on the bed sheet, in blood, at 29 Brunswick Road."

"After Mike Mosley's DNA was identified as being at the murder scene, he then was substituted as the defendant in this case. Same indictment, just changed the name," said defense attorney Terry Kindlon.

Indictments were dropped against two other men whose trial was set to begin just days before the new evidence came out.
