A final farewell to Eddie Stanley as friends and family gathered in Schenectady for the basketball player's funeral. The funeral comes only five days after the 15-year-old was shot at a party. Our Megan Cruz reports.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. --
"He was a good kid. This character, whoever he was, he spoiled his dream. And the family's not happy about it, but we're just going to make this a happy day. He's a soldier of God right now," said Fred Gentry, the great uncle of Eddie Stanley.

As hard as many tried, they couldn't hold back the tears.

"It's sad he had to go like this. He didn't deserve this," said Stanley's cousin, Tanisha Lawrence.

"It's a sad day that a 15-year-old's life got taken," cousin Eric Gentry said.

But as hundreds came to say their goodbyes, they tried to forget his death by remembering his life.

"His smile and joy of life," one person said.

"He was funny, he played a lot, he was good at basketball," Lawrence said.

"I'm just going to miss hearing his voice in the gym," saida nother person.

Stanley's Schenectady High School basketball team showed up for the services. His coach said Stanley one of his most promising players, but also was more like his little brother.

"We liked to play sports, talk about the Lakers and as he got older, we talked about girls and he would ask for advice," said Coach Eric Loudis.

Loudis says Stanley's death has been hard on the team. He says they, like his family, are looking for closure.

"A lot of it depends on finding out who did this terrible crime," he said.

But almost five days after the shooting, police have yet to make any arrests. Stanley's family is asking for witnesses to come forward.

"If you know something, tell someone, because you know he didn't deserve this. And I know there's people who know something, but don't want to be called a snitch, but if it were you're family member, you'd want someone to do the same."
