SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A month after her great-grandson was shot and killed, Willie Mae Morgan looks at pictures of Eddie. Now she and other family members can look at the face of the man arrested in Eddie's murder.

"He thought he was getting away."

James Wells, 31, of New York City, was arrested by federal marshals and NYPD Brooklyn South Gang Unit Monday night.

"They did specifically target him for us," said Schenectady Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett.

Police say after interviewing some of the 40 plus people at the party, Wells became a person of interest about two weeks ago.

Bennett said, "Just deciphering the street name and identifying who it was was a fairly significant task."

Investigators also believe that Eddie wasn't shot accidentally.

"You have a subject that's hit five times by gunfire. It hard to say it's not intentional," Bennett said.

Bennett says investigators believe they've found a motive for the shooting, but would not release that information. They also wouldn't say whether Eddie and Wells knew each other.

"If we give out too many details of the investigation, it puts further progress in jeopardy," said Bennett.

A concern of the department since the investigation is still ongoing. Bennett says police know of at least two people they are looking to speak with.

"We believe they had a role in activities prior to or directly after the shooting itself," Bennett said,

He says they know they too have fled Schenectady, but are confident they'll be caught.

Family members say the long-awaited arrest is bittersweet.

"We have some closure, but not really because my nephew, he's not here anymore," said Jackie Gentry.

Family members say they've never seen Wells around the neighborhood before. They questions why he was even at the party.

"He shouldn't have been there anyway at a teenager's party," Gentry said. "That raises a lot of questions about him as a person."

And as for the others still at large...

"Just turn yourself in. That's all I can say."

Wells has since been arraigned. He pleaded not guilty to murder in the second degree. If convicted, he could face 25 years to life in prison.

Wells is due back in court July 14th.
