Mike Kane joins YNN's Saratoga racing season team
Veteran racing journalist Mike Kane is YNN's blogger during the 2011 racing season at the Spa.
Mike is an award-winning writer, who has covered racing and Saratoga Race Course since 1980. He began his professional career in 1975, while still an undergraduate at the State University College at Potsdam.
After working for three years at the Post-Star in his hometown of Glens Falls, Mike moved in 1979 to the Gazette Newspapers in Schenectady, where he spent 25 years as a sports writer and a sports columnist. From April 2005 to November 2009, he was the communications officer at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
A five-time winner of the Red Smith Kentucky Derby Writing Contest, Mike has twice placed in the Associated Press’ New York state writing competition. He is a former president of the National Turf Writers Association and served two terms a vice-president of the Turf Publicists of America. In addition, he has been a freelance writer and photographer for many years and has worked on the media notes teams at the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, the Breeders' Cup and the Dubai World Cup.
