GUILDERLAND, N.Y. -- Guilderland High School discovered mistakes in its June regents test results. On Wednesday, they made the error public at a press conference where administrators gave the details.
The school issued corrected scores for close to 500 Regents exams. The errors were caused by incorrect calculations by district scorers.
The school had teachers grade the exams as they always do, but this year, they were also sent off for scanning and that is where the discrepancies were found.
The school says the majority of errors resulted in just a change of a few points, but there were 15 papers where they went from passing grades to failing ones. Still, the school did not want to punish those students or hold them back this fall.
"Because we learned of this late in the summer they have missed their opportunity to take the test again and attend summer school. So that was the reason for holding those students harmless," said Superintendent Dr. Marie Wiles.
The school told the state education department about the mistakes immediately and was told any score adjustment was in the hands of the districts.
