ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany police are investigating two shootings that they believe are related. Both happened close to the public safety building, and police believe they were drug-related.

A two-block radius around 271 Second Street was blocked off today after police said a man in his 20s was shot several times. He was conscious at the scene and taken to Albany Medical Center. Police believe there has been drug activity in that home. The victim's condition is not known at this time.

Shortly after this incident, a sergeant on patrol in the area of the shooting heard a shot fired near Judson and Second Street. The sergeant saw a male with a handgun inside an SUV. The SUV took off and was pursued by police into the area of Lincoln Avenue where two people inside abandoned the vehicle. Officers chased the suspects on foot and they were eventually caught and taken into custody.

Albany Police Spokesman James Miller said, "The people that were involved are pretty brazen. I think it's pretty apparent that there's police and it's police headquarters. Really nothing more to say than that, other than they're pretty brazen to do it right here."

The names of the two people taken into custody have not been released. The investigation is continuing.
