MIDDLEBURGH, N.Y. -- They canvas Middleburgh on a rain soaked Thursday afternoon.

"You register with FEMA?" asks Rick Farrington.

"We did it online," responds Steve Humphrey.

FEMA's Community Relations team travel door-to-door to answer questions of those affected by Hurricane Irene.

"The primary question we basically get asked is how do we register, where they can go for assistance," Farrington said.

Rick Farrington and Mike Gaan have been doing this in Schoharie County for days. Most homes, though, are empty, either condemned or just temporarily unsuitable. For that, they leave leaflets of information behind, hoping it'll be passed along.

"We're finding lot of homeowners are still cleaning up from the storm and some have returned to work, so it varies," Farrington said.

They spend a few minutes with Steve Humphey. Inside, Humphrey showed YNN just how high the water was.

"This was our living room area," he said.

His living room, at one point the garage of his childhood home, now gutted. Unlike many affected by Irene, he has flood insurance and so far, he says, it's come in handy.

"They are sending us a little advance to help us with our necessities until they decide the overall game plan," Humphrey said.

The point of the tour is to answer questions and people sure have a lot of them. In Steve Humphrey's case, it will FEMA help reimburse the $3,000 he spent by not living in his home.

"Baby items, the laundry, food, gas, paying for the room," he said.

Costs FEMA might be able to reimburse. FEMA's Mike Gaan tells him to save his receipts.

"I think FEMA's cooperating and doing what they can to help," Humphrey said.
