RENSSELAER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls man accused of killing his four-month-old daughter last year took the stand during his trial Wednesday.

Joseph McElheny, 30, has been charged with murder, manslaughter, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

During his emotional testimony in Rensselaer County Court, McElheny testified his daughter, Ina, became ill, vomited and had a swollen stomach and eventually became unresponsive. She later died after being airlifted to the hospital, this following weeks when McElheny says he told the family's pediatrician the baby had digestive issues and other health problems.

However, authorities say an autopsy showed Ina had severe internal injuries, including ruptured intestines, leg fractures and multiple broken ribs, leading to an infection that killed her. And prosecutors say she received these injuries from her father.

McElheny says he was trying to revive his daughter when during a 911 call his wife yelled for him to "stop shaking her like that."

The couple also has a five-month-old girl.

Testimony is set to resume on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with McElheny's wife expected to take the stand.
