NEW YORK -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced an extension for people looking to apply for public assistance to help with damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene and the remnants of Lee.

You now have until Oct. 28 to file your request with FEMA. State agencies, local governments, and certain private non-profit organizations are eligible for disaster aid, as well as those who live in disaster declared areas.

Many counties across the state were issued a disaster declaration following the storms.
