ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany police have arrested a Guilderland man who they said led police on a chase before crashing into a bus shelter on Central Avenue.
It started around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday when officers received a call for a man who was acting suspicious inside his parked car on Manning Boulevard. The caller reported that the man was revving his vehicle for 30 minutes and was possibly drunk.
When officers arrived, they approached the driver's side and asked the man to roll down his window, which he refused to do. The officer also noticed he had blood on his face.
According to police, the man, identified as William Colclough, 54, continued to rev his car, then put it in reverse and backed up, nearly hitting the officer. He then struck a parked patrol car and fled the scene, with officers in pursuit.
Police said Colclough's car struck a vehicle that was stopped at a red light in front of 855 Central Avenue. He then crossed over the eastbound lanes and hit a utility pole and a pedestrian who was standing at the bus stop in front of the Hannaford plaza. The car then hit the bus shelter where it finally came to a stop.
Colclough was taken into custody, then transported to Albany Medical Center for facial injuries. He is currently charged with DWI and assault, but more charges are pending.
The pedestrian who was hit suffered minor injuries.
