ALBANY, N.Y. -- "There are people willing to stay out here months upon months if that's what it takes to see an economic change," said Chris, and Occupy Albany protester.
The city's Academy Park has turned into a virtual tent city. The Occupy Albany movement was on day four Monday, and protesters are preparing the long haul -- all despite the city's 11 p.m. curfew.
"We're the 99 percent, and there's tremendous disparity in wealth and power in our country," said protester Jim Welch of Troy.
"This I think right now is the single most important thing any of us can be doing with our lives at this point," said protester Kat Broadus.
Protesters vow to camp there until they see an end to what they call corporate greed. Some are now questioning the city's decision not to enforce the curfew and make arrests.
"In the past we've allowed that," said Mayor Jerry Jennings. "We allowed it for the Amadou Diallo case, if you were around for that, and for homeless action and some others."
Mayor Jennings says for now the protestors can stay. That decision, despite reported pressure from Governor Andrew Cuomo.
"I've known Andrew Cuomo a long time," Mayor Jennings said. "I want him to respect what I'm doing, like I respect what he does as a governor."
"As long as we keep the park clean, we're maintaining order while the state workers are here, and keeping noise ordinance," said Chris. "Once again, simply keeping the park clean seemed to be their main concern,"
And along with the leniency from officials, demonstrators said they're encouraged by support from the community.
Laura Hartmark of Albany said, "Everybody driving by and honking, good luck guys."
And to keep the momentum going, protesters have organized work groups to make sure the city's demands are met and that everyone who wants to camp there will be allowed to for as long as they plan to stay.
