COLONIE, N.Y. -- The candidates for Colonie Town Supervisor take part in a debate just days before Tuesday's election. Last night's debate took place at the Holiday Inn on Wolf Road and was open to the public.

The debate came just a week after incumbent Paula Mahan accused her opponent, Denise Sheehan, of providing the public with false and misleading information about a 25 year, $100 million contract to privatize the town's landfill.

Both candidates debated for nearly an hour and a half on why they should lead Colonie for the next four years.

"I really have put my all into it. I think my accomplishments speak for themselves. I really think in 4 years we've accomplished tremendous amount," said Paula Mahan, (D) Colonie Town Supervisor.

"I have over 20 years of experience in state and local government. I have management experience. Finance, budget experience. I have a record of public participation and that's a record we haven't seen here in the town," said Denise Sheehan, (R) Colonie Town Supervisor candidate.

The debate was sponsored by the Colonie Chamber of Commerce, Capital Area Council of Churches, the League of Women Voters of Albany County and the Spotlight Newspapers.
