SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Schenectady Police have made an arrest in connection to a hit and run accident that killed a 19-year-old woman.

Police say Anthony Gallo, 34, hit Casandra Boone, of Schenectady, in his pickup truck while she was crossing Erie Boulevard at the intersection of State Street at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Boone suffered injuries to the head and chest and was taken was taken to Albany Medical Center where surgery was performed. She later died from her injuries.

“It's certainly suspicious. She was crossing the intersection, the vehicle struck her and continued on. It appeared she was in the crosswalk, activated the lights so she can cross safely and the operator of the Dodge pickup truck disregarded a red light and struck her," said Schenectady Police Department Lieutenant Mark McCracken.

Gallo had ten suspensions on his license at the time of the accident. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident resulting in death without reporting, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, passing a steady red light and fast speed.
