COLONIE, N.Y. -- A 63-year-old man is dead after being hit by a car while walking across Central Avenue.

Police said it happened between Reber Street and Route 155 in Colonie on Monday. The right lane was closed eastbound as police reconstructed the scene.

The driver stopped after the accident and is not being charged.

"You know, it's a common problem we have in this area, where pedestrians do not use a crosswalk. This was the result of a pedestrian wearing dark clothing and not using the crosswalk," said Lieutenant Kenneth Pero of the Colonie Police Department.

Police have not released the victim's name.
