ALBANY COUNTY -- In keeping with its new tactic, Albany County deputies set up unannounced DWI checkpoints this holiday weekend.
Twenty-three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. More than a thousand traffic stops were made, with more than half resulting in a range of violations.
The patrol was held in honor of Donna Rehm. In 2006, she was killed when a drunk driver hit her taxi in Watervliet. Megan Vogel was later convicted of second-degree vehicular manslaughter.
Acting County Sheriff Craig Apple said the holidays should be a time of celebration with family and friends and should not’t be ruined by a senseless tragedy.
