Emotions run high in a South Albany neighborhood. Friends and family set up a memorial, as they grieve for Richard Gibbs, 25, who was shot and killed inside his car around 1:00 am on Tuesday.

"He kept to himself, he was very good-hearted, very respectable," said neighbor Ada Harris.

Police believe Gibbs crossed someone.

"No, there's no indication that this is random," said Albany Police Spokesman, James Miller.

Police said Gibbs was in his car at the corners of 4th Avenue and Clinton Street when he was shot. Cops aren't sure if he tried to drive away or the car just shifted into gear, but the vehicle careened into a porch, before crashing into a light post down the street.

"Somebody's just driving down the street or has just parked their car, somebody doesn't just walk up and shoot them for no reason. There's something behind it, and that's what we're trying to find out right now," said Miller.

Police are investigating if this crime is connected to the three other shootings in the city that have happened just in the past week or if it's part of a larger turf war over drugs.

"It not only makes me sad, it makes me scared. I have a granddaughter, I have a young daughter, you know what I mean," said Harris.

Police are talking to witnesses, friends and family to see if Richard Gibbs had any known enemies or if he had a problem with anyone during the recent past. Until then, the investigation continues.
