ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- Nearly 100 Albany County residents come out to weigh in on the Albany County budget proposal.

The majority were outraged at the possibility of raising taxes 19.2 percent.

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin proposed the tax hike back in October as a way of cutting the $17.4 million budget deficit. For it, he blames fallen sales tax revenues and investment shortfalls. The tax is the only thing left he says since they've already cut services and programs.

This is the responsible thing to do. But many taxpayers seem to disagree.

Legislators say people don't understand that the county faces increased state mandates and other contractual obligations.

The proposal goes to a vote next week.
