Police are looking for the vandals that damaged a holiday lights display in Washington Park over the weekend. As our Innae Park reports, organizers say the culprits haven't just taken the holiday spirit - they've stolen from the local youth as well.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany police are investigating vandalism at the Hannaford Capital Holiday Lights display in Washington Park.

Several holiday light displays were vandalized sometime between Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Lenny Ricchiuti of the Albany Police Athletic League, which helps put on the display, puts early estimates of damage at $30,000. Corporate sponsorship signs within the display were sprayed with graffiti messages saying things like "stop corporate greed" and "don't shop at Wal-mart." Electrical cords were cut on many displays, which means they will have to be rewired.

Ricchiuti said the vandalism is disheartening, and it's the children who are really impacted by the destruction.

Lenny Ricchiuti of the Albany Police Athletic League said, “Wherever it's come from, it's obviously misdirected. Because the messages that were left, which are apparently targeting corporate America, the victims are the youth served. That 100 percent of youth that we serve in the capital district. So it's unfortunate that the misguided intentions of these vandals are going to impact the youth."

Ricchiuti said he hopes those responsible will come forward. Police are still searching for suspects.
