CORINTH, N.Y. -- In less than two weeks, the village of Corinth could be no more. But there is still uncertainty how exactly dissolution will affect village and town residents.

"It's a huge decision that the village residents have to make and I think it's imperative that the board put all the information out there that we can possibly do to educate them as to what the pros and cons are," said Village Mayor Brad Winslow.

An in-depth study of the issue says village taxpayers will save $145 in taxes per year on a $100,000 home while town residents will see an increase of $48. If residents receive state aid, village residents would save $245 and town residents would save $48. But that aid is not guaranteed.

"I can't get any guarantees on what it's going to save. In fact, I think it's going to end up costing the taxpayers money," said Adrienne Hull, village resident.

"I think the number that we have is conservative. These numbers are put out by the committee, so it's kind of disingenuous to say on one hand that they're not accurate but on the other hand, you endorse the committee's approach," said Mitch Saunders, village resident

There are concerns regarding dissolution, assuming the referendum passes. They include whether or not current village residents will receive the same services they get now and the fact town residents don't get to vote on the matter.

"I do not believe dissolution is the answer. If it was done as a consolidation and the town people had an opportunity to vote with us, I would have been inclined to think it was a democratic process. This is not a democratic process the way it's being done," said Hull.

"My position on the dissolution of the village is that we should vote in favor of it.///I would say there is uncertainties. But that's in life. I mean every company has uncertainties when they have to make market changes. And this is market change for this community," said Saunders.

There will be one more informational meeting January 11th at 6:00 pm at the Corinth Volunteer Fire Department and residents will decide on dissolution with their vote January 17th.
