ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- The man involved in a shooting near Newburgh is out of the hospital and now behind bars.
Last Saturday, a Town of New Windsor Police officer pulled over a car heading north on Route 32 towards Newburgh. Police say there were three people in the car, including a child.
Police say Jardell Ward, 24, of New York City gave the officer a fake name during a routine traffic stop. The officer then realized Ward had a gun in his waistband.
After a struggle, the officer fired two shots and police say at least one shot hit Ward.
On Monday, Ward was released from Westchester Medical Center and was then arrested by police for criminal possession of a weapon. He is being held at Orange County Jail without bail.
