SCHOHARIE COUNTY, N.Y. -- State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and several members of his staff join construction workers to help rebuild homes in Schoharie.

DiNapoli's office staff, along with members of the "Building and Construction Trades Council" volunteered their time Saturday, installing sheetrock, painting and making other repairs.

Many homes are still gutted some four months after Irene, and homeowners said they're struggling to get things back to normal.

DiNapoli said he hopes more volunteers will answer the call to lend a helping hand during the winter months.

“To have a day like this where you have a lot of volunteers especially skilled people who know how to work with sheet rock and do carpentry and electrical work and so on, that is enabling the homeowners we're working with today to have a great leap forward in their rebuilding effort. These are people who want to continue to stay in this community. Anything we can do as good neighbors to try to help them realize that dream of rebuilding their lives, we should be here to help them, that's why we're here,” said DiNapoli.
