WARWARSING, N.Y. -- Could a casino be coming to the Catskills? A Manhattan-based investment group hopes so.
Monday, a state judge will hold a hearing about the sale of the Nevele resort in Wawarsing to Claremont Investments LLC.
That company would then work with a casino developer to restore the property. While casino gambling is currently not allowed on non-indian land in New York State, Governor Andrew Cuomo has said he supports efforts to change the law.
It's expected that Claremont could pay up to $6.7 million for the resort, which has been closed since July of 2009.
