Second case of pertussis in Montgomery County
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.Y. -- A second case of pertussis, more commonly called whooping cough, has been confirmed in Montgomery County.
The County Public Health Department says they were notified on Monday that a student was removed from Lynch Literacy Academy in Amsterdam for treatment.
Public health officials have contacted people who were in direct contact with the student and so far, no one else has been positively diagnosed with the bacterial infection.
A high school student at the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District had the first case of whopping cough in the beginning of January. However, Community Health Educator Dana Plank says these two cases are not related.
Officials say whooping cough can be highly contagious and can be deadly. You should contact your physician or county health department to get the appropriate vaccinations.
