Worshipers welcome Torah home
Parades typically don't take place in Monticello in mid-winter. But Tuesday it was time for the Torah parade. Our Christian Farrell has more.

MONTICELLO, N.Y. -- "We have a lot to celebrate," said Rabbi Ben-Zion Chanowitz.
And with that declaration by the Landfield Avenue Synagogue rabbi, the partying begins in Monticello. A parade up Broadway signifies their Torah is on its way home.
"Today is a great day. Thank God we have the Torah back. This is our Torah. It was meant for us, meant for our community. Today is a day of celebration," said Chanowitz.
The Torah disappeared from the synagogue for nearly a month, stolen during a break-in. But police recovered it last week, charging a Woodridge ex-con with stealing the sacred scroll.
"I see a lot of happy faces now. It was kind of gloomy at first and now thank God, it’s returned," said Monticello Mayor Gordon Jenkins.
Supporters paraded the Torah from the police station back to the Landfield Avenue Synagogue. With the Torah back where it belongs, officials from the Landfield Avenue Synagogue say they're going to take some precautions to make sure it stays there.
"It's going to go into a safe," said Chanowitz.
And on top of that, the rabbi says they're also working on installing a synagogue security system.
