RENSSELAER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Friends, family, and hundreds more came together to honor former Sheriff Daniel V. Keating, who died last week. A Mass took place Friday morning at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill. Police and military honors followed in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Watervliet.

Keating was first elected as Sheriff in early 1991, and went on to serve three terms. He decided not to seek reelection in 2003. Prior to serving as Sheriff, Keating had a career with the New York State Police, working as a senior investigator. He also worked in administration with the New York State Police and was a veteran of the Marines.
