AVERILL PARK, N.Y. -- Firefighters had to battle more than flames at an early morning house fire in Rensselaer County.

Chief Paul Glasser of the Averill Park Fire Department said, “With the Cold weather, and the water supply issue, it was very tough."

They were called to the house on Route 43 in Sand Lake around 4 this morning. When they got there, they found the back of the historic home completely engulfed in fire.

The house is now a total loss. Firefighters now are trying to figure out what started the fire.
