SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Police in Rochester believe a Schenectady man was intoxicated when he was hit by an Amtrak train in Rochester early Wednesday morning.
It happened just after midnight outside the Amtrak station. Police said Troy Zabawczuk, 44, was a passenger on the train. They said for some reason, he got off the train during a stop at the Rochester station.
Police said Zabawczuk had become intoxicated and was abusive to other passengers on the train. When he tried to get back on the train, Amtrak employees refused to let him back on.
Investigators said Zabawczuk may have tried to jump onto the train as it departed and that he may have been dragged a short distance. He suffered a severe head injury and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
