STATEWIDE -- The state health department awards more than seven million dollars for centers that help people with asthma. They include coalitions throughout Upstate New York.
$7.2 million in grants will be used over five years. The funding provides asthma services to high-risk populations.
Asthma is a chronic disease of the lungs that affects an estimated 1.5 million adults. That includes more than 490,000 children in New York alone.
Some of the grant recipients include Albany's Whitney Young Center and the American Lung Association in the Hudson Valley.
