ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany Police are warning residents to be careful who you let inside your home.
Police said an elderly couple became the latest victim of a water scam when two men knocked on their door.
They claimed they were from the water department and needed to check their water.
The couple said the men were suspicious, so they threatened to call police. The suspects then fled.
James Miller, Albany Police Spokesperson said, “Anybody who’s representing a legit agency, in the city of Albany here, like, the water department, they're gonna carry ID lot of times in the winter time, they won't have distinctive clothing on, but they will be driving a vehicle that's well marked."
Police remind you that any legitimate agency will never be pushy about getting into your home.
You may remember a Clifton Park woman was also recently approached by a man who impersonated a water authority worker.
