ALBANY, N.Y. -- The 19-year-old man arrested in connection with last weekend's fatal hit and run in Albany has been released on $75,000 bail.
The Albany County District Attorney's Office said Ian Eckhardt-Rigberg has been released under the supervision of probation under the conditions that he does not operate a motor vehicle, has a restricted license, surrenders his passport, and has a curfew.
Eckhardt-Rigberg pleaded not guilty to charges including second-degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of a personal injury auto accident resulting in death.
He is accused of hitting Rozell Whitehead, 53, as he crossed Henry Johnson Boulevard Saturday night. Whitehead was pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center.
Albany police said Eckhardt-Rigberg didn't stop but later went to the Bethlehem police station to report an accident.
State Police confirmed that before the accident, troopers were pursuing Eckhardt-Rigberg for speeding on I-90. The pursuit was called off when he got off at Exit 6 and onto Henry Johnson.
