Burn ban in Ulster County
ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A burn ban is in effect in Ulster County. A law passed in 2009 toughened restrictions on open burn barrels. The regulations prohibit the burning of trash, leaves and treated wood.
March 15th through May 15th marks the state's historically high fire risk period.
Violators could face criminal and civil actions, and penalties ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars.
