FALLSBURG, N.Y. -- For the second consecutive weekend, a Catskill landmark goes up in flames.
After the Tamarack Lodge in Ulster County burned down last weekend, firefighters in Sullivan County spent much of last night battling 20 to 30 foot high flames at the Grandview Palace Condo's in Fallsburg.
The fire broke out around 4 p.m. Saturday at what was originally known as the Browns Hotel. Firefighters said between 75 and 100 people were staying in the building at the time, which has nearly 400 units. Everyone escaped the building safely.
A former employee of the Browns Hotel reflected on the loss as he watched the fire take over the building.
Former employee, Damon Sabatini said, “Being here so long, I know a lot of them, it's very emotional right now, it's sad, and I hope everyone has gotten out."
The American Red Cross is working on setting up a shelter for displaced residents at the Sullivan County Community College field house.
