WASHINGTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Washington County grand jury will review a massive explosion in Salem that left six people dead and five others injured.

Washington County District Attorney Kevin Kortright confirms subpoenas are now going out and that a grand jury will review the events surrounding the July 13th blast on Route 29.

An investigation lead by the State Police revealed the explosion was caused by a propane leak from a leftover tank and sparked by a water tank motor.

Some have pointed fingers at one of the survivors, Steven McComsey, 32. McComsey, who lived at the home with his girlfriend, Tammy Palmer, was standing in the doorway at the time of explosion and told police he was in the basement investigating the smell of propane moments earlier.

McComsey's lawyer, Paul Wein, calls any accusations against his client, "insane."

"There's no motive, there's no reason for my guy [McComsey] to do it. He was in the building five minutes before it blew up, he was standing in the doorway when it blew up, it just defies logic," Wein said.

Kortright says the grand jury will likely convene later this month and that it's possible they'll be asked to file an official report in lieu of charges.
