WALLKILL, N.Y. -- America's favorite pastime is at the center of a very special day for some Orange County families. More than 120 families and about 100 volunteers gather in the town of Walkill on Sunday for a baseball game put on by the organization, Beautiful People of Orange County.

Known as the Miracle League Orange County Chapter, disabled people between the ages of 5 to 21 are invited to participate. The Miracle League has 220 chapters nationwide, and organizers said they are looking to do what half of those chapters have already done, which is install a rubber surface park area that consists of fields, playgrounds, restrooms and a concession stand.

According to organizers, the rubber surface makes it easier for those in wheelchairs to get around. Although fundraising is in the early stages, Beautiful People said it is important to pinpoint where the park will be built.

"We have specs, we aren't looking to reinvent the wheel. This is a program that will run smoothly once we have something identified in terms of property," said Jan Brunkhorst, Beautiful People Executive Director.

Brunkhorst said a new park will cost anywhere from $650,000 to $750,000. Her agency is hoping that the land will be donated.
