NEW YORK (AP) - Men and women have slightly different opinions about Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposal to ban large sugary drinks from eateries.

Quinnipiac University says men oppose the ban 55 to 41 percent. Women support it by a slim margin: 50 to 47 percent.

The health board received the proposal Tuesday. Public hearings are the next step.

The ban on drinks over 16 ounces would apply only to sweetened options that contain more than 25 calories per 8 ounces. It would not apply to diet soda or any other calorie-free drink.

The telephone poll of 1,093 New York City voters was conducted from June 6 to 11. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
