SALEM, N.Y. -- A man who lived at a home in Salem that exploded last summer has now been charged with manslaughter.

Steven McComsey, 33, was arrested by State Police and arraigned in Washington County Court Thursday afternoon.

Six people were killed in the explosion back in July, including McComsey's girlfriend, Tammy Palmer. Four others were injured, including McComsey.

After an investigation by State Police, a grand jury found the explosion was caused by a propane leak from a leftover tank and sparked by a water tank monitor.

According to McComsey, he was standing in the doorway at the time of explosion and told police he was in the basement investigating the smell of propane moments earlier.

McComsey has now been charged with six counts of second-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

Bail was set at $75,000 cash or $250,000 bond. He is due back in court on August 24.
