Sculpture in the Street exhibit opens

There are 14 massive clogs in downtown Albany and we don't mean traffic tie-ups. However, these clogs are bound to attract plenty of passersby. The city unveiled displays for this year's Sculpture in the Streets art exhibition, all with a distinctively Dutch approach toward commemorating Albany's rich history.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- If you're strolling through downtown Albany on this gorgeous weekend, you've probably noticed several oversized clogs leaving their footprint throughout the city. Well, they may be too big to walk in, but you can at least sit in them.

Albany got some new shoes as part of this year's annual Sculpture in the Streets public exhibit. Called, Stand in the Sole of Albany, some of the large clog sculptures feature stylized landscapes of the city while others are a bit more traditional in their design.

However, all capture the rich Dutch influence on the city, through the perspective of public art.

"When you have something out in the open, you have that interaction and it allows a certain level of energy to really come out with people," said artist Gunman Black. "You don't get that all the time when you go to a museum."

The exhibit lasts through May 2013. There are six 7-foot clogs and four pairs of 3-foot clogs, making for a total of 14 throughout downtown.
