UNITED STATES -- One place that can heat up rather quickly is in your car. According to experts, on a 90 degree day, the inside of your car can heat up as high as 198 degrees. That is hot enough to cook bacon and eggs or even cookies on the dashboard. More importantly, it can actually damage the vehicle and some of the components inside.

Cracking the windows is one way to relieve the heat. Lauren Fix, our Car Coach, also suggests placing towels over a leather seat or metal buckles so that you won't get burned.

One thing that you don't have to worry about is the old wives tale that your windows can explode if you leave them shut on a really hot day.

"It's a myth 100 percent. Glass is formed at over 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Before it even gets to that point in its molten state, it is 1800 degrees Fahrenheit and it is formed in its permanent. You have safety glass on the front, tempered glass on the sides. It cannot explode, even if your windows are up," said Fix.

We also asked the Car Coach about windshield reflectors. She said that they do work and can actually bring the inside temperature down as much as 50 degrees.
