SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- You may have heard of a flash mob, but how about a cash mob? That's what people in Schenectady came out for on Friday night.

The cash mob encourages people to pick a locally owned business, then come out as a group to spend money there.

This time, they chose San Francisco Restaurant, located on Albany Street. The Spanish-American restaurant has been in operation for eight years at the same spot.

A city councilwoman organized Friday's event.

“The purpose is to pick out a community based business, a small neighborhood business, and to support that business. So it helps circulate income in the community and to let people know about different businesses that may not get frequented in the community,” City Councilmember Marion Porterfield.

The Councilwoman says there are plans to do more events like this and the next one will likely be in the Stockade neighborhood.
