Memorial service planned for fallen soldier

MONROE, N.Y. -- A memorial service is planned to honor a local soldier who died overseas last month.

Major Paul Voelke, 36, a Monroe-Woodbury High School graduate, died in Afghanistan on June 22nd. He served 14 years in the Army, including three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

A wake for Major Voelke will be held on Thursday at Smith, Seamon and Quackenbush Funeral Home in Monroe, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mass will be held at Most Holy Trinity Chapel on Washington Road in West Point at 10 a.m. Friday, with burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to the Paul Voelke Memorial Fund, Bryan Bank & Trust, P.O. Box 1299, Richmond Hill, GA 31324.
