WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Actor Bradley Cooper is back in the area, this time in the Berkshires, as part of the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Cooper and actress Patricia Clarkson lead the cast of "The Elephant Man."

Both actors, along with the play's director, met with media Tuesday.

Cooper takes on the role of the Elephant Man, or Joseph Merrick. Merrick's facial disfigurement brought on much attention and scrutiny in nineteenth century London.

Cooper says he looks forward to the challenge of taking on the role.

"It's a very natural connection I feel toward him," Cooper said. That's why I think that I would even want to do it. Because of that sort of very visceral feeling I have toward this man who lived in the late 1800s."

The play runs from July 25 through August 5 on the Nikos Stage at Williams College.
