New York City woman killed in Thruway accident
NEW YORK -- A New York City woman was killed in a rollover accident on the Thruway. It happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
An SUV was travelling northbound near the town of Coxsackie when a tire blew out. State Police say the driver, Russhelle Thompson, may have overcorrected, and the vehicle was sent into the median, where it struck and flipped over the guardrail. The SUV then continued to flip over both lanes of southbound traffic before it landed in a drainage ditch.
Five people in total were in the vehicle, and Thompson was killed. A 12-year-old is in critical condition and has internal injuries after being ejected from the vehicle. Two passengers, a 21-year-old and another 12-year-old are in the hospital in stable condition. The fifth passenger was not hurt.
