MASSACHUSETTS -- Massachusetts residents who buy their own insurance have until August 15th to make any changes. A 2010 state law limits when people buying health insurance outside of an employer's plan or a government-subsidized program may buy or change plans.

The 45-day open enrollment period began on Sunday.

This affects about 71,000 people who buy their own insurance.
